Bloggin' ...And Other Assorted Love Songs
An Album-A-Day recorded June 9-10, 2004, by myself. The title is a play on Derek and the Dominoes' release Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs.Bloggin'
A sensitive ode to that most juvenile of media.
Idaho Driver's Manual
I didn't get my driver's license until January of 2006, a year and a half after this song was written, but I'd been working on it for a while. A lot of these songs are about things on my desk and this is one of them.
Juicy Fruit
Wrigley's Juicy Fruit gum is basically the only kind of gum I ever purchase, and this song's about it.
Amber (She's So Gay)
One time a joke song title was proposed: "Blue (He's So Gay)" about this gentleman Blue Lang. He has a girlfriend, Amber, and I wrote a song for that mentioned title and for my Album-A-Day I wrote this. It's good-natured and was well-received, and also I don't disparage homosexuality or homosexuals.
Cool Beans
This is one of those songs where it's just a list. The inspiration came from that stupid phrase "cool beans," and then also the film Best In Show wherein Christopher Guest's character "used to be able name every kind of bean that there was."
Necromancer Frog (Or, Froggin')
My close friend Molly once created a frog for me out of Sculpey, a polymer clay for fun sculpture sorts of things. I kept it on my desk and pretended it guarded my DVDs, and when I was sore up for song titles for this album I wrote a track about the figure.
Flava Flav's Clock
Flava Flav, a rapper with the group Public Enemy, is and was often seen with a wall clock hanging around his neck. I wrote this about an account of being given the clock, kind of in a Green Lantern kind of thing. It's fiction... or is it?
Straightedge Girls
I yearn for birds that are tattooed, have funny-colored hair, piercings, listen to the Velvet Underground, watch Stanley Kubrick films, etc.: this one's for them. 'Course there's non-straightedgers that do those things, and maybe they're generally cooler than straightedgers, but that's how the song goes, so.
Jesus Beat Me in Gran Turismo
I'll quote from the last verse: Once I picked up Gran Turismo/ Played it `til my head fell off/ Then I died and went to heav'n/ And Jesus beat me in Gran Turismo.
Dial-Up Blues
Though I had long since been without dial-up I wrote from experience.
Attacked By Bees
This song's just all over the place, mostly about travel.
Breakfast
The last track, made up to fulfill the time requirement. Ah, life.
